need help installing memory on asrock p4i45d motherboard.

I am building a PC, I have an ASROCK P4i45d motherboard and I'm using a Pentium 4 2.66gig processor slot 478. My question is do I have to use DDR 400 memory to make this work. I tried using a DDR 256mb PC2100 memory stick from my E-Machine which also has a Pentium 4 but when I try to get on to set-up the bios the system freezes up. Maybe I should just go buy some DDR 400 memory and it would do the trick. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

yeah, i have a s478 and i have touse DDr, DDR2 didnt come around until LGA775
