will a temp of 62 c for processor temp be hot enough to damage the processor?

i dont think damage, but shortten its life alittle more then running it colder.

I can't find a way to get it colder the HS is fine and running and its really clean inside so I don't know what's causing high temps

Hello,

I have an Athlon XP 3000+ Processor.

My BIOS states that my system temp is at 50°C to 60°C. However, I don't think it's true. I've never measured the core temp objectively.

Thoroughbred cores have a max. temp of 90°C and Barton cores a max. temp of 85°C before they die, so I suppose you don't have anything to worry about.

Rightio.

Well, to me 60 does seem a tad bit too hot, as under load it may shoot up by about 5 - 10*, nearing the 'ceiling' which will fizzle your CPU. Clean your PC of dust, and maybe re-apply some thermal paste to the heatsink, or 'mebbe even replace the entire heatsink with a more powerful one.
