Hi I bought the following barebones kit from TigerDirect:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2353710&sku=I69-2124 A

I installed everything but when I tried to power it up, it gives me four beeps (alternating high and low) and then shuts off. Nothing shows up on the monitor either (no video signal?). I checked it out in the motherboard tech specs and it said that the beeps indicate "thermal warning". However, the heat sink and fan both work and are spinning. They are securely installed, and I also applied a layer of thermal grease on the CPU chip before installing the heat sink.

Also, another question I have is this: does it matter which of the four slots you stick the RAM in?

This is really frustrating. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks a lot.

9 time out of 10 this is that the heatsink isnt in proper contact with the die.

I'm not familiar with socket 775 coolers but with many sockets i've come across its possible, even easy to not properly fit the HS. I would recommend you take the HS off and take a look at the grease, does it look like its been in full contact with the HS? replace the HS following any instructions that came with carefully.

Other than that it might be a faulty CPU.
