Actually, i found an excellent deal on a video card, and RAM on the Future Shop website. I might have to get one for myself, too.

Card - Diamond Radeon X1300 PCI Express 512MB Graphics Card

RAM - http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10038448&catid=

Also, as you can see, the 17" CRT still has some life in it. It's still new on Newegg...

Kinda hard when he's 11, lol.

Thank god he doesn't want a used one...

What games CAN you play on Emachines integrated graphics? Anything?

I would say something like this:

Then find a cheap GPU and slip in the system while his parents aren't looking... but you didn't hear that from me! It's PCIE, so I'm sure you could find a cheap something (6600) to make up the difference... Call it a B-day present, and if your really good you can have it shipped to your house to do the mods first, then they REALLY wouldn't know... :p

That computer has the worst RAM ever :(

I know it can be upgraded, but that's just pricey for a machine with 512 RAM.

I'll check into that one though, i'll go to Future Shop today and see what they have, dodging those salesmen.

Not much to choose from sorry, but it's all the parts together I was looking at... and besides... my son is 11 as well... you know how many games he plays... about 4 and most of them are online.. I think at ram would be ok, for a little while.. and that IS EASY to upgrade... slip it in one day and they would never know the difference.

I'll take a long talk with him and explain how games aren't as easy as they are, as far as running them.

He thinks that games will simply run on anything when you buy them. This is going to be hard...

But yeah, i'll tell him to get one of those Emachines, hopefully their PSU's don't blow after 1 hour of use :p

Maybe if you get the system WITH all of you together (Parents, son, and you) and go to the store... you can take it apart and show them what your talking about... Ya'know... pull the ram right in front of them, and put it back, etc... then BUY THAT one to show them it didn't mater if you messed with it. so when it is time to upgrade the video, ram and what not... it'll be a little easier...
