Hard Drive Trouble

Hi there I just removed a virus from a computer,the virus is completly removed from the hard drive and the BIOS seems to be okay,when I replaced the hard drive back in the PC I could not boot from it,the cables are orientated correctly and jumper settings are correct,the hard drive is not defective as it boots in a different pc,when I try to boot from the hard drive I get the message "Booting from Id 0" but the screen goes black,the bios is not broken as my compaqs 8.0GB hard drive boots up in it,the system is running Windows XP Home,its a 1.8GHZ Athlon

does anyone have any ideas

could you boot up from Floppy win 98 SE?

Go into your bios and toggle the hdd settings. Just a thought,
