cd-rom problems

I have a cd-rom and a dvd-rom drive in my computer. About a year ago i started having problems with them. It started out that every once in a while the drives would not work. they would not show up in "my computer". it is now to the point that they are never there. I find it hard to believe that both drives would be shot expecially since the dvd drive has hardly been used. The drives are both connected by the same ide cable. Is it likely that the ide cable would have gone bad? what else might be the cause?

The ide cable mite be bad, and also could be a mother board issue as well. change the cable first and see, if no change then try putting the drives in another machine and see if they show up. if they show up in another machine and the ide cable didnt work then its probably your motherboard. also make sure the molex connections are tight and the ide as well. make sure your jumper settings are correct too.

Yea do all that, if they fail to work afterwards, cd and dvd drives are cheap at http://www.ebuyer.com
