Do I need the same brand of ram to run dual channel?

Putting a ram chip into my sisters gateway notebook computer. If I want it to run dual channel do I have to get the same brand that gateway uses or just match the pc and cas speed?

Plus what brand does gateway use?

i think it would be better if they were exact, thats a good question though..

No, I have two sticks, Corsair and Apple, and they run in dual channel.

I would assume it's better to have them be the same exact sticks, but I don't think it's necessary.

She already has one chip in there and shes only buying one chip. But I don't know who makes gateway memory. I think it will work with another brand though like the general said.

oh yeah it would run in dual channel if you have the same exact kind ( as in speed and stuff)
