hey, i recently had my computer die on me, so im getting a new one. however, my computer that died is fairly new...im pretty sure the motherboard got fried somehow...anyways....idk if i should buy a whole new computer and just steal the HD and a few other things from my old computer, or if i should just get a new motherboard and cpu....and if so...which? i want 3 GHz or more w/ 1 GB or more RAM. im not worried about the HD cuz i can just take the 80 GB one from my other computer. still, idk what to get. needs to be somewhere around $400 or less. Any help is appreciated.

give us complete specs of the computer that died... (sockets, etc..)

did you assemble hte previous one yourself?

its really important to figure out which part of your comp died so we can help you out better...

emachines T2824 (modified though), 325 celeron D, 2.53 Ghz, 256k L2 Cache, 533 MHz FSB, 80 GB HD, intel extreme graphics 3D, 256 MB DDR (x 2), motherboard: intel D845EPI/D845GVSR

any other specs, just ask

well if the motherboard is dead, there's no point in sticking with the socket.. since the cpu is pretty sucky...

what speed is that DDR ram?

where exactly would i check that? the chip itself says the following

PC2700U-25330-A1
M368L3223DTM-CB3
256MB DDR PC2700 CL2.5

Hope that helps

and the 2nd chip only says:

ah ok it says there.. pc2700 = ddr333

anyways.. so it looks like we're ditching the mobo, cpu, and the ram.. only thing you can keep is hard drive, opticals, keyboard/mouse, monitor, and operating system...

everything else will be new... i'll show you what type of build...

k.. this is roughly how it will look like...

do you do any gaming with this computer? the mobo i chose has integrated video, but you could get a video card if you do a lot of gaming.... so thats what i left out, video card, and case..

$335.48

you can pick w/e case you want.. try to keep it cheap..

if you don't want a video card, you could go to 2 gigs of ram ... but you'd have to get a really cheap case to stay within your budghet.. also add shipping and possibly tax (depending on wher eyou live..)

i do a bit of gaming....what i need high memory/ect. for is mostly designing on programs like 3DS MAX 7, Rhinocerous 3, AutoCAD. 3DS Max slows the computer down real bad.

Also, i can go up a little bit in price...maybe up to $600....but i would rather not, being that i dont have a large income ;)
