In a small pickel

Im in a small jam with what i need upgraded for better system performance preferably for gaming. Right now i have a small job and i dont make that much so, ....... My processor is an Amd Athlon Xp 2500+ (@Stock till i get a Zalman Cooler) and my video card is very old and is a Msi Nvidia Geforce 4 4200 ti, the core speed of the video card is 250mhz@300mhz and the memory is 512mhz@600 also has some tweaks to render more. It also doesnt have all the new technologies (aka. pixel shaders)

For the biggest jump in performance, what should i upgrade first, the processor including the mobo or the video card.

If i upgrade the processor and mobo, i will be getting an Amd athlon 64 3500+. (plz list some affordable processors and mobo's)

If i upgrade the video card, i will be getting a 256M Sapphire Rad. X1600Pro Agp 8x. (plz list some affordable agp 8x cards)

I can only get one or the other which sucks so plz help:confused:

Amd Athlon Xp 2500+
AsRock k7s41gx
80gb Western Digital IDE
40gb Maxtor IDE
Raidmax Scorpio 868 Case
768mb Generic Ram (2,3,3,6,9) *plz tell me what timings to use*
Windows Xp Media Center Edition
500watt DualFan

I would get the mobo first. If you get the videocard you have to get a AGP version (last gen)

Go with a AM2 mobo and cpu. You will need DDR2 memory too, but at least you will be getting next gen stuff.

You should sell your present comp to help with some of the cost. This ought to get you started

CPU

Mobo(has onboard graphics so you wont need a VC at first)

Mem

if you have to stay with AGP get a X800/850 or 6800/7800 video card. X1600 is at best so so.

Thanks

Im actually trying to sell a Intel Celeron 1.7ghz@2.05ghz but thats not goin over to well, im only askin $150.00.

$300.00 in total is just abit outta my price range, i can get around $240.00 if im lucky.
