I work for a company where we unfortunatly still run win98 on a few pc's. I noticed that when i do fresh installs sometimes a product key for one disk will work for another. Is there a set range for each disk? If so why? Or is this just a freak occurrence? Curiosity just got the best of me. Any Input? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that you don't need seperate keys for Windows 98. Microsoft doesn't make you activate it, so i'm guessing that you just need to have legit CD's for it...

Thanks. But i have a disk with no paperwork and i want to do a fresh install but cant get by the section where they ask for the product key. I got the disk out of a dumpster. Ha, Ha.

I think Brady was saying to use the prciedure in the link on one of the machines that already has win98 on it, then use that key for the CD you have......

Just make sure to write it down.

If you cant do that Im sure you can get a cheap Win98 licence on EBAY...
