hey here's what i'm for sure gonna have in my build:

Antec TruePower 2.0 TP-II 550 550W

eVGA e-Geforce 7600 GT KO Video Card

Acer AL1916W Black 19" 8ms Widescreen

Western Digital Caviar SE16, 250 GB Sata 3 Gb/s, 16 mb cache

Other (case, windows XP Media Center, Keyboard/Mouse and CD/DVD drive)
after all that i'll have aprox. 550.00 left for a motherboard, RAM and processor. i can't decide if i wanna go conroe or X2 3800. i will be using this PC for gaming and animation as well as just regular usage.

I can't go more than 550 for the rest. If need be i might go to 575 but prefer around 500-550. Also, I want to use 2 GB of RAM as well and prefer a fast dual core processor but will settle for a single if it's fast enough.

i guess what i'm asking for is a list of what you guys think the best build for me to add to this would be. Maybe list some parts if possible and i'm open to other parts instead of the ones listed above (GPU, PSU...etc)

thanks.

$550 left?
$140 for an Intel Board.
$220 for an E6400.
$150 for two gigs of no-name DDR800, maybe?
If you want to put more into the RAM, go with an E6300 for $180. That' still more than enough processing power.

ya that is a sorta limited budget for all those major components.

Are you sure you cant round up like 150 more bucks? cause that would get you some better quality RAM.

yeah, i'm pretty much stuck. this will all add up to around 1250 and before i was only gonna spend around 1000.

another note: i'm waiting on my last paycheck from work which i won't be getting for 2-3 weeks or so. I'm just telling you this in case for some reason that might make a difference. i'm hoping to build this computer before i go to school in about a 4 weeks. thanks for the input.

i know that a E6300 is better than a X2 3800 but what i'm trying to figure out is what's the best way to got for this situation. i know that right now i can get the 939 version of the X2 3800 for around 120-130 and the AM2 for around 150-160.

is DDR2 that much faster than DDR1 because if it is then i might only need to go with 1 gig. same for the RAM w/ the intel.
