Woooo nelly....
First you need more memory and a video card.

If you upgrade what you have its a waste, you have 2 slots for memory and I bet they each have 256. You need a minimum 1 gig (2 is ideal) so if you buy new memory your old will be wasted.

second you are using onboard graphics so you definately need a video card. Your mobo has a AGP slot (last gen) so buying a video card for last gen is also kind of a waste.

You should be able to build a Brand new comp for about $500. If you dont gut your old one you should be able to sell if for a couple hundred to someone who could really use it. (that is about $300 for a new next gen model)

Now a bunch of new stuff is gonna be happening soon(Vista, DX-10, Conroe) so chill out, do a little research and look for someone to sell ur old comp to and we will help you put together a nice comp..

What's a fair asking price for the system I posted in my original post? It's case is pretty cool looking and I will load the latest photoshop and office programs. How much should the price go up if I add an OS?

yes.. i have that same aspire psu.. and it ran me through sli for a good month until i had to sell my graphics card... so i wouldnt listen to someone who hasnt had it.. its doing me just fine, never had it unstable yet.. and i check my abit monitor at least once a week

Hey shortthrow, it looks good except for the PS.(sorry Nos) The HDD is ok but try to get a Sata2 -16mb buffer version from WD though.

This is not to knock Aspire PS but read the reviews on Newegg, not so good. Try for a Silverstone instead,

notice the reviews...

to save money you can get the 3800 instead(not much diff between 4200 and 3800 in real life)
and as to a case check these out they are very nice for the money($39)

they come in Red,Blue and Black

I used one for one of my builds and everyone loved it.

The Silverstone is much better. And the Aspire is fine BUT, if he uses a X1800 card (a power hog) he will need a very stable PS.

Silverstone makes industrial Power supplies and if you look inside you will see a beautiful design and top stuff.

Ok, a few things:

Don't get that video card, for one, it's already an open box. Get this, $170: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130283

That motherboard will not match your CPU. Either change the CPU to this, $170: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103735
or
change your motherboard to this, $105: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813136152

That power supply will work, but if you want to be safe or whatever reason, I would recommend this, $90: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103931

umm well 2 7900 gt's is a power hog too.. and it ran just fine.. and how is the silverstone better than the antec truepower? the antec has 2 more amps than that silver stone and 50 more watts
