this will be my first home build...have a Dell now that i think is starting to crap out.

im not a gamer at all, this will be basically for surfing the net, looking at pictures/videos, burning the occasional cd/dvd, and general use. i dont play any games besides yahoo/aol games so no need for super giant mega video card or anything like that.

here is what i have so far:

good cheap, Rosewill Case and Power Supply:

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817182028

MOBO and CPU that im looking at...still havent decided on either yet so any suggestions for those would be great.

MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813128008

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819116001

im not really set on Intel, its just what im used to so if anyone has any suggestions for AMD, im all ears.

im going to re-use my memory, video card, and all drives for now. will get more later on when i find what i want.

ETA: one other thing...when i look at newegg.com some things say OEM and Retail...what exactly is the difference?

Wait for a few days and AMD cpus are going to be very cheap. I would look into those if I were you.

The difference between OEM and Retail is what they come with and the boxes they are shipped in (I believe). Retail comes with all the manuals and software and OEM doesn't. With OEM you just get the product.

i'll have to check that out...will the prices be changed on newegg.com or will i have to look other places?

wait for intel's core duo E6600 to come out on the 27th...either buy that or once that comes out AMD will surely cut their prices but a lot then you can stick to budget and but AMD's dual core

well...i couldnt wait any longer.

i picked up the pcu, mobo, and memory last night...here's what i got:

PCU
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103735

MBOB
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131013

and

Memory
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145566

the pcu dropped half price on monday so i went ahead and picked it up...i was debating between the 3800 and the 4000, the difference was like 40 bucks but i decided to stay where i was at.

its a dual processor and has the new am2 socket instead of the older 939...so its just a little faster...but newer

overall im happy...received the PSU and DVD/CD burner/reader...the PSU is much larger than i thought...cant wait to put it all together
