Hi,

This is what I have currently:

2.8 ghz xeon
1 gig ram
nvidia quadrofx 500

I want to upgrade one of the above. I rarely ever play games, but I do watch a lot of movies on here...and for work I use Photoshop a lot, but that really runs fine as things are now.

Should I get a second processor? Through Dell (this is a Dell Precision 450 workstation), they want $700. Or should I just upgrade to 4 gig ram (and replace the 4x256 DIMM's with 1 gig ones) for slightly less money?

As I said before, games aren't an issue, but strong video performance is...so I'm not sure that I really need to upgrade my gfx card?

thanks for any advice

i say the ram and buy the xeon of newegg alot cheaper so you may have enough for both i will look up the cpu for you what socket?

thanks matt

i believe this is socket 604, but i don't know for sure haha, i'm such a n00b...how would i know if it's 604 or 603?

i searched dell's support site and i can't find this in the specifications. this is all it said for my processor when i entered in the service tag:

PROCESSOR, 80532K, 2.8GHZ, 512K, 533, DECISION ONE

but from the link you gave, i found this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819117052 $216 is not bad at all!!

this is the one dell wants $700 for...crazy
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04&sku=311-2645

does that seem about right?

so maybe i can do both the ram and the processor
