Sound Card Or Onboard

Hi,

I am not exactly sure what sound card I have, I got it with my stupid Dell Dimension 8300 3 years ago. I just recently bought a new motherboard and I don't know if I should just use the onboard audio on it or put in this old sound card. What do you think I should do? Here is the motherboard I got:

It's onboard audio is: ADI AD1888

Onboard sound is fine. Unless you have truly amazing speakers or you use your computer for some hard core audio recording onboard is fine.

I agree. I use onboard audio for my 5.1 speakers, and it sounds great. For general use, onboard is fine.

Yea I have it hooked up to my creative 5.1 surround and it rocks!

I like to play games though, if that changes anything. I don't just use my computer to check emails and the common stuff. So is onboard still fine for gaming until I upgrade my whole system?

if the rest of your system meets the specs for the game then yes onboard sound is ok

If you play online FPS games like Quake 4, BF2, or whatever...then a sound card is a must IMO.

I love my SB X-FI. I even just use some cheap Panasonic headphones and playing OpenAL games with EAX is awesome

If you guys woulda read his post you would of seen he has a soundcard from his dell. The soundcard in that dell is an Audigy 2. That Audigy 2 will be way better then onboard sound.

It doesn;t support OpenAL. which IMO, makes a huge difference
