I was wondering if someone could possibly guide me here. I just started putting together a new PC (second time build) and i seem to be stuck here. I put the MB in first then the CPU, a little artic silver on the CPU, installed the heatsink, 1 stick of memory, then the HD. Everything is connected properly i checked it twice. turn the thing on and just heard a loud pop.....Not really sure if i fried something here or what... any suggestions

MB - BIOstar onboard video and audio
CPU - Intel Celeron D 345 3.06GHz (socket 775)
Memory - PNY 256MB PC 2700

The stock heatsink comes with thermal tape. It will not transfer heat right if you add artic sliver to it.

It is most likely the Powersupply if it happened pretty fast.

Ya, id say the power supply, or >heatsink(maybe)< on a educated guess. It doesnt make sense for the motherboard to pop, as well with the other hardware, i dont see how that could produce such a sound. Even so, test your **** out on a friends system its the only way you can find out.
