Hello

I was wondering but did not cmd at the start-run open an MS-DOS window in windows 95/98, when i do a start-run--> on windows xp i get

Microsoft Windows XP(Version 5.1.2600)

???

What's your question?
Can you pls rephrase for the benefit of everyone.
Thanks

did not the command prompt (start->run->cmd) in windows 95/98 open up an MS-DOS window.
when i do the start->run->cmd i end up with a CLI which says Microsoft Windows XP(Version 5.1.2600) not DOS

It says Microsoft<R> Windows DOS
Think you have to type "command" instead of "cmd".

oh ho

so cmd and command are two different commands with command bringing up the DOS command prompt

what does cmd bring up then?

Like what you said you got in your 2nd post: Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] :D

oh

what is the difference between cmd and command?
is there any difference in their functionality?
