I want to install XP Pro on an older computer that has 98SE and need simple instructions on how to do this. It only has one harddrive and I don't think any partitions. I don't need to save any data as this will only be used in a network by my nieces to browse the internet. I don't know how to format a disc but was hoping between my nephew and I we could do what was necessary with an easy step by step guide.

First off, you might want to rethink what you are doing. Make sure that your computer can actually run XP. If the computer was build/bought in the time where 98 was around, it will likely have a hard time running XP.

Otherwise, installing XP is simple. Put in your WinXP CD while booting up, and press the 'any' key when you are prompted to. The rest steps you through the install.

I just simply ran the windows xp pro installatin cd on my old laptop with 98 se, it worked fine, though visuals are set to basic for optimal performance

i dotn suggest doing anything too overhelming on it though

the minimum requirements for xp are

3 gig of free space for the OS
333 MHZ PENT 2 ( I would not do it under a 700 mhz pent3, thats just me)
128 meg of ram,,, real life 256meg of ram or more.
