How To Remote Connect To A Laptop

How would I go about connecting to a laptop I am on a network running windows 2000 on both computers. I want to be able to run the laptop & transfer files over to this computer what would be the eaisest way to do this.

use admin username & password

this assumes file and print sharing is enabled. i cant remember if its on by default or not.
