Hi,

Ive really lost it with computers thee days, I have no idea about anything new or recently out for the past 6 months, so Ill just put a simple question.

1300$ (US) to spend, what should i get?

Need just the main things, hardware in the pc and a pc case also if you could.

I will be using the pc for gaming, therefore do not really need anything over 120GB HDD.

I also do not want any 'lag' or anything if something happens in the background if im playing a game, its gotta cut it. :)

Thank you if you can help,

Cheers

Btw, i have heard something about Conroe from intel. Are they supposed to be the AMD equivilent of a 'gaming' CPU? Will they be better? Should I buy?

Also, please could you supply links to products? Thanks.

might i suggest an Antec P-180 case and a AMD Atalon 64 X2 3800+ proc...that should get you started...also mabe a 7900gt or gtx. As far as RAM goes many pople have different preferences, i personaly like the OC Dual-Chann. Platnum 2x1GB series. But onsidering your budget i would either go w/ the CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Dual-Chann. or G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Dual-Chann.

YES!!! deffinatly wait an buy if you are going for a high performance gaming PC..the Conroe (sadly :( ) surpasses the AMD FX-60....if you are willing to wait, go for the Conroe...also heres some advice, in the future look up the topic you are curious about on TF prior to posting a question to eliminate repitition.

OK, thank you.

But I am pretty hesitant on getting the pc as soon as possible, for various reasons.

intel is releasing conroe very soon, and AMD plans to stay competitive by slashing most of their prices...

so if you wait a few days and see how things unfold, you'll have 2 options..

1) go with the conroe
2) go with AMD, and save a lot of $$

if you go amd.. your build should look like this.. i'll stay within $1300 anyways.. (you'll either get this for cheaper, or for same $ better!)

so thats total: $1287.94 - $80 MIR = $1207.94

add shipping, taxes (if applicable), and looks like i forgot an optical drive..

what do you mean you're hesitant to getting the pc as soon as possible? you want to get it asap or you don't want it asap?

anyways good luck..

Thank you for your reply and help, I take this into consideration.

Also, If i was a NVIDIA fanboy, instead of ATI... :D?

What?

Yes.

OK, then maby I should wait for Conroe.. Do you think the prices will be high or low?

Also, the radeon 1900XT was picked up there. I am an nvidia fanboy, so i was wondering what nvidia card I should get instead? Or if someone could show benchmarks or something where this 1900XT is better than other cards in my budget?
