windows not geniune tray icon

i have a little star shaped iconin my tray saying that my windows isint genuine...is there a way to get rid of it? ive tried "fixing" it with hijackthis buh it just reappears.

Firstly, is your copy of XP genuine? Secondly, has it been activated?

There is a virus spreading over the net (Cuebot-K I think) which masquerades as being a Windows Genuine Advantage tool. It's possible that your system has contracted it.

That icon appears to constantly remind you that your windows xp isnt genuine. There is a WGA removal tool google for WGA remover and then you`ll have to set automatic updates to ask you when to download updates. That way you can avoid downloading WGA.
