PCI Express... worth it?

Alrite well, my comp is... shit, and I'm lookin to get one in the next week or even sooner. I'm really wondering if i should be waiting for PCI Express. I hear its coming out in the summer, but im wondering is it worth it. Is it going to be expensive? Are teh video cards nVidia and ATI are making going to be more than a 9800xt? Is it worth the wait?

well, nobody knows how much better than PCI it is yet, or how much a mobo with PCI Express will cost, so there really is no answer for that

There is talk that PCI Express is going to have a 20% performance increase over the fastest AGP cards out atm.

I think it really depends on what you are going to do with your computer. If you want to do a lot of gaming then yes, it would be worth it. Another thing is how much money do you want to spend? If you have a good sized bank roll then go for it. A 20% increase in performance is alot. With a 16X graphics card your system will run any game with ease. Big question: Can you wait?

Bah, PCI Express is WAY to expensive.......man, I can barely afford AGP cards as of now!!

No way!! (Although I must admit, PCI Express WILL change the way we look at video cards)

Hehe Chubz, I feel your pain Bro. I do not have a big bank roll myself so I will stick with my current config. Wait til PCI-X comes out, I hope everything else drops like a rock.

Hmm, it depends how crappy your system is... If you regularly upgrade then you'll save money by waiting, but if your stuck with like a Geforce 2 or something, then I'd go with an AGP card

You'll have to redo EVERYTHING on your machine to run PCI-Express, mobo, CPU and GFX card and that alone will get you around $1000

I have a TNT2 32Mb PCI version video card and my motherboard doesn't even have AGP! lol! My mobo isn't even ATX! ^^
