OK i have my own laptop know i would like to reinstall windows and keep everything i have right now on this lab top. OK so how do i keep all my file's data etc? how reinstall windows without losing everything? since i got this from a buddy it's never acted right.

well do you have the xp cd? if no, then back everything up and reinstall.
