at first i was dumb and i thought all opterons were for servers. ok so now i know only some opterons are for servers. i want to get an opty for my next build cuz everyone says they're fast if u overclock them, and in some cases they could be faster than the FX-60?? are they really faster than the AMD X2 line of proccessors. and if they are so fast why does not everyone use the opterons. my first build is not that great but its ok. so should i put an opty in my next build as opposed to other proccessors?

Ok so the links are to ur build right now i take it?

Everyone doesnt use opterons for a couple reasons, 1) most mobo companies "say" they dont support them when they do 2) some ppl dont kno about them and think, like u did and me too, that they were for servers.

Opterons are supposed to OC better than Athlons, some say because its cuz of a different silicon or w.e, some say they both have the same silicon jsut the opterons stock settings arent as high as athlons.... who knows.... who cares really, Opterons OC like a crazy... thats all that matters

When you goin to build your new system. I'd wait until end of july, AMD's prices will drop (i dont htink on opterons, but u can get a good X2 for way cheaper) or you can get a Conroe and so far those have been OCin like crazy too

basically not everyone uses opterons because they are not really a mainstream line of processor. being that the opteron denmark core is basically identical to the athlon toledo core with some minor differences, mainly that they are "binned" to higher frequencies and downclocked. in other words they are actually made to run stable at frequencies higher than they are sold at. they are also made from higher quality silicon than the athlons. basically they overclock extremely well and even the lowest clocked opteron has a very good chance of overclocking past the speed of the highest clocked athlon.

Except mine, lol. Although this could be due to my BIOS acting strange, according to some things I have read. I might flash it back to default.

Personally i would go for the Opteron cause they OC very well (even the 144 Opty's do (which i just ordered))

But as everyone else will probably say, if you want to OC get an Opteron

Opeterons were made for servers, and they do have higher quality silicon, because servers do a lot of work, and thus need tough parts to handle the stress. For the same reason, they can overclock very well.
