Thats a long time to wait for it.
Not really, considering how long it has been in development. Either way, I still stand behind my original statement "Who cares how long it takes, if it helps them get things right."

Is Vista going to come pre-loaded into the cheapo $300 Dells, or are they using XP still?
That's the big question. If they have it ready for public on-shelf release by November 2006, then it will be in PC manufacturer's hands in late August or September, which is ideal since the market sells the most PCs during the holiday season, and Vista will be a selling point if it is available.

However, if MS shifts its date again (as they most likely will), then they will miss the holiday PC rush, which will push XP onto the new PCs of the year, which will hurt sales in the short-term. Once people buy a PC, they usually don't change OS's. Except for us techie folks, most PC buyers don't ever change their OS from the one installed when they purchased it. If MS doesn't get Vista out before the holidays, they'll lose 1-3 years of Vista sales on new PCs (not including individual purchases and such, of course).
