Application Hang!!

Ok other night my pc froze, and now when i click something from start menu it stays up and hangs, and the application i clicked to open takes forever to open.... Also when i open control panel and go to eventviewer my pc freezes for a sec and hangs.... what is wrong? Corrupted registry? I did a system restore and it dident fix it..

id do a scan for virus or spyware, try booting into safe mode if you cant do anything in normal mode.

STEP 4.Run STEP 6 at this point then uninstall your virus scanner and install each one of these and run a full system scan. Make sure to uninstall each one after its finished and run them in safe mode.

STEP 5.
To clear the Java cache follow these steps (if java is installed):
1. From the Start button, click Settings > Control Panel
2. In the Control Panel, open the "Java Plug-in Control Panel"
3. Select the Cache Tab
4. Click the Clear button inside the Cache Tab, which will clear your JRE cache directory

OK i have done just about all that *phew* and still get the application hang =/.. When i load up AVG antivirus and it goes to scan registry it takes forever!!! usually takes 2 seconds now like 4-5 mins!!

so your pc was working fine not long ago, did you install any software? alter any settings on your pc?

run checkdisk on your hard drive or drives. Then download memtest and run that for a few hours, and prime95.

The last thing that happened is, my pc froze. then my apps r hanging.. but anyways its the registry.. it got corrupted gonna reinstall XP or go to linux
