I just cannot seem to find any detailed info on these 2 chipsets, hmm what is a chipset by the way? According to my friend, the 865 is a tad better than the 875... is it true?

would the 865 be better than the 875 for major gaming purposes or the other way round?

Please help to ans this qns, itd b appreciated

Other than the i875 having PAT (Performance acceleration technology) (which the performance difference between it and the i865 are only negligible), and that the i875 allows ECC memory to be used. Other than that, there isn't too much of a difference between the two. I do suggest reading up on some further reviews/benchmark tests in real-world applications and games.

I would however, avoid the 865P, as it does not support 800 MHz FSB P4s; instead go for the 865PE.

It wouldn't hurt to pony up some extra dollars for an 875P board though, as I've seen some really good quality and cheap ones, namely the ABIT IC7.
