Sound/Driver help please

I recently installed a new hard drive and on doing so had no sound or graphics cards recognised. I have now found a driver for my video card and this is working but I have no sound.

The sound I am pretty sure is on board as there is no extra card in a pci slot. I am assuming I need a motherboard driver for the sound but can't find one anywhere.

I have run Belarc advisor which give my motherboard info as:
Microstar Inc MS-6580 20A
Bios - American megatrends INc V3.7 0 05/19/2003

Can anyone tell me if I am on the right lines in what I think is wrong, and if so where I can get the driver from>

i have found this which looks like it might be what I need but I have no idea which driver to get

your chipset is a Via Apollo KLE133, your onboard sound card is an AC97

download the VIA 4 in 1 drivers from:
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/driver/dvr/spt_dvr_list.php?part=1&kind=1&CHIP=1&COM=2
it has drivers for the AC97 sound card

Excellent thanks for that.

One thing though, When I download it it gives me a whole bunch of files, one is a setup.exe, I assume this is the one I want to open? But when I do it tells me I have no hardware that supports, or something along those lines.

Am I doing something wrong?

Hello,

I think you've downloaded the wrong drivers.

It might have an intel chipset. I can't tell which out of the following it is...either 845PE Neo, 845PE Max or 845G, because firstly of all there isn't any clear documentation on the Internet, and secondly the MSI downloads page require you to search by chipset and not motherboard model.

Download, unzip and install cpu-z http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpu-z-134.zip . The motherboard tab tells you what chipset you have.

Anyways, you already know you have ALC650 AC'97 onboard sound...you can simply download the audio drivers and software from the manufacturer's website:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/dlac97-2.aspx?lineid=5&famid=12&series=8&Software=True .

But you still should install your chipset drivers.

As for chipsets. Mine is i845PE. What else do I actually need to download then?
