Geforce8: to wait, or not to wait

Here is my predicament: i cant run any games. My specs are below. Im gettin 2gb of ddr2 on friday when i get paid. However, my video card is broken. all the specs below, 3dmark05, 279. no, its not a typo. 279. Halo gets one fps. Literally, no joke.

So, im gettin a new video card. I have 3 questions:

When are the geforce 8 cards coming out?

Will the cards only work with vista, or can you use them on xp and vista?

Should i wait for the geforce 8 cards, or should i get like a 6800 to hold me over until then.

Yea I'd buy a temp card if you can afford it. Then sell it off when you get you 8800GT.
