Thoughts on Pentium D 805 smithfield

pentium d 805 (smithfield). it's got just 533mhz fsb, but it is dual core...
cores run at 2.66 ghz each, and l2 is 2x1mb. anyone used this proc yet?

Well i know it has very good overclocking abilities as sum1 managed to get it to 4.1Ghz on air cooling. Thats impressive.

Yeah and it's dirt cheap, like $128 USD.

It makes the perfect Media Center CPU - even without OCin'.
I'd buy one, but i already have 2 PC's and two extra CPU's.

not really if you can afford a dual core opteron. beware the smithfield runs HOT. if you want to overclock like in the article on THG (curse you THG) you need a decent motherboard

Aparently this cpu got to 3.8 on the stock cooler but you will need an aftermarket one if you want to go higher. And yeah a good mobo.

one thing people never seem to take into account is that THG don't care if their hardware only lasts a week. articles like this are suicide runs. just because they made it that far doesn't mean it is practical. i don't think the chips lifespan would be very long under those circumstances.

I dunno cos i read that to get up to 3.4-8Ghz the voltage doesnt need to be raised very much but then you wouldnt know until you try.

yup, and i won't clock until i've replaced the stock hs/f.
