DVD writer playd DVDs but not CDs

DVD writer plays DVDs but not CDs

I bought a Sony DW-Q120A dvd writer. I can play dvds but cds are not working on it. I tried many cds but none is working. While I tried a DVD and a blank DVD-RW, both worked without any problem.

What could be the problem?

i don't know, you might have to update the firmware on it

Its a new DVD writer. The manufacture date is May 2006. The firmware might be latest because it is quite new. I searched on google for firmware, but couldn't find any site.
