I have a few questions...

1. How do you check if your motherboard is 4x or 8x speed?
2. What is the difference between a "kit 512 mb RAM" and just a regular "512mb RAM" without the "kit"?
3. What are ALL of the things i should make sure of in his computer in order to make sure that everything is compatible?
4. And lastly, where do you look in order to find #3 out? Is there something in the "Device Manager" I should look for?

Use CPU-Z to see what it can tell you, or Belarc Advisor to get the make and model of your mobo, then Google it to get its specifications.

2. What is the difference between a "kit 512 mb RAM" and just a regular "512mb RAM" without the "kit"?

Most "kits" are two sticks of RAM... in this case it would be two sticks of 256.

3. What are ALL of the things i should make sure of in his computer in order to make sure that everything is compatible?

Too much to list.

the main ones are:
CPU socket
video card interface (AGP or PCI-E)
hard drive interface (IDE or SATA)
RAM type (SDRAM, DDR or DDR2) - SDRAM is only used on older computers, mainy Pentium 3's

-My bro's graphics card is a PCI (Not Express) NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500
-Hard Drive Interface = IDE
-IDK where to find my CPU socket specs in Device Manager, so can someone reply to all of these ?'s i have?
-And also IDK what your RAM Specs are labeled under in Device Manager.

Thanks for all ur guys help!

What I was mostly looking for was your exact motherboard model:D

Once you find out what model of motherboard you have, then picking parts is easier.

My brother's motherboard specs are:

Make: Intel Corporation
Model: D845GVSR AAC45431-104
Chipset: Intel i845G
Rev: B1
Southbridge: Intel 82801DB (ICH4)
Sensor: ITE F0D

Also, what does like, PC100 or PC3500 and stuff mean?

socket 478

supports up to 3GB PC2700 (DDR333) RAM

3 x PCI slots

no AGP or PCI-E

for RAM:
PC16 = 16MHZ RAM (not sure if it exists)

PC33 = 33MHZ RAM

PC66 = 66MHZ SDRAM

PC100 = 100MHZ SDRAM

PC133 = 133MHZ SDRAM

PC2100 = DDR266

PC2700 = DDR333

PC3200 = DDR400

PC3500 = DDR433

PC3700 = DDR466

PC4000 = DDR500

PC4200 = DDR533 or DDR2-533

PC4500 = DDR566 (not common)

PC4800 = DDR600 (not common)

PC5100 = DDR633 (not common)

PC5400 = DDR667 or DDR2-667

PC5600 = DDR700 (not common)

PC5800 = DDR733 (not common)

PC6100 = DDR766 (not common)

PC6400 = DDR800 or DDR2-800

PC7500 = DDR933 (not common)

PC8000 = DDR1000 or DDR2-1000

PC8500 = DDR1066 or DDR2-1066
