Ok...my regular boot drive is my SATA but i also found an old IDE drive from an old computer and want to use it as a storage drive. On the IDE drive there is a picture with the jumper settings and I know to use it as a storage i will probably set it to Slave, but i also see "Spare". I was wondering what this was.
So my questions are what is the difference between slave and spare?

Is it possible to use a drive for storage without installing windows on it?...like leaving it just unpartitioned and everything?
