For gaming, the better GFX card would be of bigger importance than a better CPU. I agree, you can't go wrong with the Opteron!
 
Look around on eBay for the Opty, I scored mine from a wholesale seller with a best offer for like $130 shipped.
 
EDIT: how much difference would a 7900GT make over a 7600GT...

also..which 7900GT or 7600GT is the best..
cuz when i look at the 7600GT's theres one that says "KO" on it and then theres one that says it has a higher clock speed and one thats just regular with way more reviews and cheaper....

Well, I couldn't really get him to budge on the video card, so he's going to get a better cpu and more ram.
