can a motherboard with integrated graphics use an aftermarket card for graphics instead? for example, let's say i have a p4 processor in a regular motherboard which has 8 megs bult-in video memory. if i have another video chip on a pci-compatible card, can i use that one somehow or would that cause some sort of conflict?

thanks all!

Say yes you can use it. You should be able to plug it in, plug your monitor into it and turn on the comp, If all goes according to play it will disable toe old one and let you use the new one.

Most motherboards have options in the BIOS setup to use a discrete card rather than integrated, but otherwise, the integrated adapter can be disabled in the Device manager in Windows.
