Hi all.

I have been having problems with my sound on my computer as of late and I have been unable to fix the problem.
What is happening is the sound is stuttering when I play mp3s or movies; it is mainly happening in Media Center, media player but is also happening in other players.

I have tried the following to correct this problem to no avail.

- reinstalled windows hoping it is a software issue which didnt help at all :(
-turned off hardware acceleration for sound
- upgraded to the latest sound and video drivers
- brought another sound card

this is starting to annoy me in a big way since I love watching movies on my PC and having a cruddy sound qaulity isnt helping.

I have the following specs in my machine.

MSI 865 NEO3 mobo
Pentium 4 3.0 prescott
2 gig DDR400 ram
XP media center
1x160gig sata drive (master)
1x 300 gig sata drive
1x 300 gig IDE drive in a USB external case

I am hoping someone here has some ideas on what this could be.

PS the OS does not need reinstalling since I did a full format last night and a fresh reinstall and yet the probs persist :'(

Have you tried installing older sound drivers? Maybe the latest ones aren't co-operating with your hardware.

Also, is everything connected properly inside the case? (Just have to ask)

It can't be a memory issue, because you have 2GB.

everything is connected inside the case, and yes I have tried older drivers.
I have even disconnected the ext 300 gig drive just incase it was a problem with that but it still is crackling and is driving me insane lol.

I have also tried using a better qaulity cable between my sound card and my speakers and using high qaulity headphones plugged directly into line out; all to no avail :(

This sucks.. I am all out of ideas.
