I haven't read the EULA on XBOX and PS2 games but I know that making copies for distrubition is illegal. But however you can make 1 backup if I remember so for PC games. Why? because you have the right to.
Using the backup PC game will work on a PC. However this is different on console, you can NOT play backup game's on a XBOX or PS2 without a hardware modification of the console.
