Need help choosing amd processor.

I had a catastrophe and need a new processor. I had a AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Newcastle, but now i want to get a better one. I was thinking about getting an AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103562. What do you guys think? is it good for the money. Any reccomendations. It needs to be socket 939 <$300.

Id get a opty 165 and OC the shiz out of it....


the x2 3800 is nice but the cache on the 165 is much better.

I havent been able to get into ocing, but i have a water cooling system. (my comp broke right after i got it but soon going to have fixed parts) but if I have a koolance water cooling case/systerm would i be able to get it up there?(speed)

with water cooling you could get it 2 3.0GHz if you have good ram.

Oh ya, with watercooling you're looking at 2.8Ghz+ all depending on how good your ram is.

Definitely the Opteron 165. But if you can afford it, I'd reccomend waiting for Conroe and then "redo" your system.

Are both of those being used on your rig? if yes, then i think the ram's are going to be a factor in your OC'ing. i think having different brand name and 4 sticks of ram is going to limit the OC potential if you get the opteron. so if you dont want to spend more money to be a harcore OC junkie , then you should probably stick with the x2 3800+.
