Im trying to load windows 95 ( i know its old LoL but i have win98se Upgrade disk too). I have a new computer that i just assembled. But it will not boot up off the the Win95 CD. Im not very good with DOS so i cant figure out how to get a command prompt to load it manually. I need some help any suggestions. THANKS GUYS.

Do you have a boot disk for Windows 95?

If so, boot the computer with the boot disk and when you get to the command prompt, change the drive letter to whatever your CD-ROM drive is (this can be tricky sometimes, it was R:\ on one of my old computers with only one drive)

Once at the appropriate drive letter, I believe you just type setup.exe, I will double-check that as it has been a while.

Hope this helps.

I dont have a floppy drive... i tried booting it with my brothers 98se bootdisk and it wont boot with that either. I can hear the dvd drive spinning up and everything but it wont boot up. Im still in the dark here. any help would be appreciated thanks.- Mike

you gonna have to get a floppy drive
since you just build it i think you realy know what to do
its easyer for you to get booting floppy disk then trying with the disc can you go to bios?
have you ever checked if the cd rom its there?
and its the hard drive there too?

Ok i got a floppy disk drive and loaded windows but now everytime i try to boot up it comes up with "Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer" I need MORE help lol

Hey Imaminuteman04,

I'm not sure if the error is Windows File Protection
error or not but with a fresh install of Wiindows 95 all
the system files should be intact and this usually comes
up when a Windows System file has been changed.

I haven't worked with Windows 95 in 4 years so guys
help me out. Can you do a repair install with Windows 95?

You can try sticking the Win 95 disc in while it's booting up
and hit F8 and boot to command prompt then copy the
log file viewer and all other files located on the CD at \OTHER\MISC\LOGVIEW to the \Windows directory.
Execute LOGVIEW.EXE and look for an installation log file
and any errors that occured during installation.

There is also something called the ERU Emergency Repair Unit
on the Win 95 Cd which backsup all your system files and allows
you to return to the state at which you created the backup.
This is located at \OTHER\MISC\ERU again copy all the files to
the \Windows directory and execute the ERU.exe file.

If you don't have any important files or a bunch of programs on
the Hard disk then I would recommend doing an Fdisk, Format, and reinstall Win 95 again. It's less of a headache and a lot
quicker then spending 8 hours trying to find the problem and
fix it sometimes.

Good Luck.
