Laptop motherboard or cpu failure??

I have a problem with my Dell Inspiron 2500. One of my friends gave it to me because they couldnt get it to work, so im trying to fix it. The problem is when i plug in the ac adapter it flashes yellow for a second on the LED panel and the fans spin for a second, then it stops. I can only hear a faint noise, so it sounds like something has power. Also when i plug it in, it sounds like the computer is about to start then it stops. No display either.

I dont know if i need a new motherboard or cpu or if i can fix it in anyway.

I've got one of those, the only problem is t he battery is dead (literally)

Why it won't boot? I can't help you much there I've never had that problem but, to make a good guess i would say something on the motherboard is fried or going bad

and if you open it be ready for agravation, i opened mine and it is somewhat somplicated and i thought i killed the speakers and mouse pad after putting it back together

edit:-- sorry i should have mentioned that parts are kind of hard to find (unless you ebay) and some of them are OVERLY expensive
