four 256mb chips or two 512's?

mobo runs dual channel, right now ive got two 256's (512 total)

any advantages / dis

what about two 256's (512) and then another two 512's(1024) for a total of 1536 mb of ram? is that good/ bad ? lol

Four chips can actually make your system run slower than two. I would say go for the 2*512 (1GB) and try to sell your 2*256.

DUDE remember, not sure if u no or not, when buying dual channel make sure to buy dual channel kits, not buy 1 type of stick here and another there, dual channels come in sets. just a heads up.

DC will not be a big boost. If you buy excellent ram with loose timings and OC the dooggie doodoo out them......you will notice a definite performance boost......otherwise, value Ram 2x1gig is your best bet in DC, even though you will not see much of a change in system performance.

Most of the time, when working with total memory amounts of 2Gb or less, less sticks = higher performance, especially with dual-channel. Just be sure to buy competitive timings too.
