Hey fellas I recently bought an LCD 19" monitor widescreen from ACER. Now I leave my PC on for long hours. However my buddy told me that he used to work at Best Buy and they were told to turn off LCD monitors when not in use because they only have 12,000 hours of lifespan. Is this true?

LCD displays are lit up by flourescent bulbs behind the screen. those go bad after a few years but they can be replaced. there is nothing else i could think of that would only past 12k hours. usually you would know that your LCD needs to be serviced if a portion of your screen becomes suddenly dimmer than the rest. or if the entire screen is just not as bright as it should be.

well if they're in direct sunlight or hightemperatures, it wouldn't be too bad turning it off. plus, you'd save energy, so why not do it? hit up power settings and crank it down to a cool 10 mins screen shutoff
