question about screen refresh rate?

when setting my resolution should my refresh rate be lower or higher for the best looking picture. right now i have it at 1280x1024. 60hz should i make it higher.

refresh rate will not alter the picture as such. the refresh rate is how many times per second the screen refreshes so effectively it determines the maximum frame rate your monitor can display so generally the higher the better.

The eye can't tell the difference when the refresh rate gets over 55fps, so you might as well not worry...

With a CRT, the higher the better. Low refresh rates cause eye strain and headaches.

With a LCD, 60 is what is recommended. Higher refresh rates can actually degrade image quality.
