Is this pc from a manufacture like Dell, HP, IBM etc.??

If so, they tend to save a copy of the "Restore CD's" in a hidden part of the hard drives. That is needed to run the Factory Default Restore by pressing a combination of keys at the start of the computer.

If you have a custom built system..... thats a whole different ballgame.

all hard drives are somewhat less in capacity to what they are rated.
in fact the figure works out to be approximately 93.1541% of every drive.
80GB = 74.5GB
120GB = 111.78GB
160GB = 149.05GB
200GB = 186.31GB
250GB = 232.89GB
300GB = 279.46GB
320GB = 298.09GB
400GB = 372.62GB

I have no idea why manufacturers don't make a drive that is actually the same capacity as what it's rated as

All HDDs are smaller after being formatted. The Disk's capacity is 320GB before formatting, 298GB after. Check it with any other HDD! :D

it got nothin to do with formatting , hd manufactureres refer GB as 1 million bytes/1000 mb ,thats why hds are always bit smaller.. , theres nothin wrong with your hd
