So i just built my own computer. I have the hard drive reformatted and i have a disk in to download windows xp. When i start the computer however, when it starts loading up i press f2 on the screen it tells you to to go to the boot menu but it doesnt work. Then it takes me into a screen saying "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key." I can see why that would happen but i have tried 3 different keyboards and none have worked, any help on this?

What motherboard do you have? You should either clear the cmos or download a new bios and update it.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813157081 and to clear cmos you take the battery out and wait a few minutes right? ive tried that and didnt help

Try taking out the battery, moving the little jumper from 1-2 to 2-3, press the power button, press it again, replace the jumper, replace the battery and boot. Here's the jumper:
