ow I hope this problem can be solved because it has been bugging me for about a week now.

Whenever playing DVD's (in WinDVD) with 6 channel sound turned on, the audio has a loud crackling behind it making it impossible to watch. But when I switch to 2-channel sound its fine. I tried many DVD's and tweaked some settings in WinDVD and the only usefull thing that I found was that when I switch it from DirectSound to WaveOut the distortion decreases (reduced to a few clicks and pops but still incredibly annoying and unwatchable) but the centre channel becomes incredibly quiet and barely audible, even at the highest volume.
Nothing like this happens for MP3 playback (theres other problems there but I'll tackle all my PC problems one by one in seperate threads)

CAN SOMEONE HELP ME BEFORE I GO CRAZY

Specs:

Athlon XP 2400+
512MB RAM
Audigy Gamer Sound Card (latest drivers)
Klipsch Promedia 5.1 speakers (ZOMG they sound AWESOME!)

It sounds like your motherboard doesnt support 6-channel audio.

You dont need 6-channel audio, if you are using PC speakers.

What optical drive are you using? DVD-RW?

It doesnt matter about my onboard sound (which does support 6 channel) because I'm using an Audigy Gamer which has 6 channel sound also.

Why don't I need 6-channel audio? I want the full surround sound effect...

Yeah I'm using a DVD Writer.

Any other ideas?
