Hi, I'm building a computer... I'm n00b to this.

I'm not sure what componants I want, I want something fast and loads of memory. I'll be playing games on it aswell.

ASUS Socket 775 800FSB Motherboard

Pentium 4 Processor 3Ghz

1024 RAM

128MB GeForce 6MX Graphics Card (if u play games)

120GB Harddrive

this is my list so far, what do you think?

advice?

will you be building it yourself? have you already bought the parts? or you're just planning? what is your budget? is this mainly for gaming?

omfg lmao!!!! =P

anyways you migth want a diff graphics card, and i reckon AMD is cheaper and better... whats your buget.. you could do much beter than that....

General use really, music, games, work, watching films etc

I've about £700... but I doubt it'd cost up to that

well how much of that 700 are you willing to spend on your computer? and i'm guessing you're in england so if you give us the website of the place you plan on buying your parts from we may be able to help you pick out better parts.

ok so i mainly looked at ebuyer... as its easier to navigate through.. you can shop the other one for better prices... (although it seems like ebuyer is cheaper as well)

i didn't look at monitor/keyboard/mouse/software(OS) etc.. just the MAIN parts..

i came in under 700 pounds.... but thats before!! VAT... you guys pay more taxes than we canadians, wow! looks like after vat it goes well over... BUT.. you can modify and decrease as you see fit.. so here it goes

AMD Athlon 64 (ADA3800BVBOX) X2 3800+ Socket 939 Dual Core 2.0ghz 512Kb and 512Kb Cache 094640 357 £172.51

MSI K8N Neo4-F SKT939 nForce4 chipset Dual DDR400 PCI-E ATX 098137 45 £47.59

Seagate ST3200827AS Barracuda 200GB 7200RPM SATA 8MB Cache - OEM 103409 98 £52.60

Corsair (TWINX2048-3200C2PT) 2GB (2 x 1GB Matched Pair) DDR PC3200 2x128Mx64 non-ECC 2x184 DIMM unbuffered 2-3-3-6 64Mx8 DRAMs Matched Pair Silver Heat Spreader Lifetime Warranty 085958 15 £121.98

Antec TruePower II 480W PSU 090615 84 £49.99 £49.99
CoolerMaster Centurion 5 Silver Trim With Side Window - NO PSU 085282 38 £37.43

Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out Dual DVI PCI-E 106035 67 £170.19

LG GSA-4167BAL 16x DVD±RW Dual Layer Internal IDE (Black) - OEM 097237 535 £21.95

Cart Total: £674.24

ya... you could use it as a guideline.. this system is killer!

the system that aliasaid suggested is good but rather expencive you may be better off with spending a little less on the memory and getting an nvidia card the 6600gt is still awesome value for money also i am guessing that those prices are before VAT, delivery and as mentioned it doesnt include the OS, monitors, speakers, keyboard, mouse, headset, fans, FDD/DAT, fan controls, extra networking equipment, software or games. all of these are things are of course optional but you will inevitably want to buy them if you get a system like that!!! think carefully before splashing out on anything
