I just got an update from Microsoft and now it says that my copy of windows is not genuine. I need to buy for $150. I know my windows isn't genuine, but how do I get rid of this icon in my taskbar? It's looks like a star. Any ideas?

Here is what it looks like:

bite the bullet and pay the money. I saw somewhere that they will give you a discount if you are a student or millitary so maybe you can get off. Don't use Pirated software is always the best way to get that off.... :)

There is a way to pass remove this and validate your illegal copy online but i dont think this forum is the appropiate place to discuss it

hmm if you had Win 98 laying around, you could install it, then buy the XP Home upgrade for less than the $150. Being legit is the best way. Sure there are illegal means to everything, but in the end, you are missing out something; like updates in your case.
