Hi,
I was just wondering that how safe it is to send Hard drive through post? (of course with lots of bubble wraps)

Are today HDs "strong" enough to survive postal services? how the good shock protection mechanisms are?

Any inputs would be really appreciated,

Thank you all in advance.

And also, would it make differences to the matter, between sending an "empty" drive and formated one with data stored.

thanks for the replies,

My friend overseas is sending me a hard drive with some important datas on it. (the files are too big to be burnt on just a few dvds)

I just want to know how "tough" the hard drives are these days, and which brand has better reputation for shock protection.

maybe its not a good idea at all?

The best thing to ship drives in is the original box that
they are packaged in. That is the kind of packaging
required when you send a drive back under warranty.

If he is buying a new drive then just use the package
that it is in. If you want even more protection then
you could put the original package in a bigger box
and use bubble wrap.

If he doesn't have a box, then he might be able to get
one at a local computer store. Make sure that the
drive is put in an anti-static bag like the one that it
originally comes in.

I don't think any drive manufacturer has better shock
protection than any other manufacturer.

send it in a huge wad of bubble wrap and a few plastic bags and then to top it of put threee huge cushions around it all :p...

nah normal packaging shoudl be fine...
