well over all best value is the 165 if you overclock but the 4400+ is right in the sweetspot of price vs. performance. i haven't seen that much info on overclocked 4400+'s though

question : are all Opterons very good at overclocking or is it just the 165? would the 170 or 175 oc just as good as the 165?

all opterons tend to be good overclockers. the overclockability of a processor can not be guaranteed, the only thing a processor is guaranteed to do is run at the speed it is rated for. however it is a fair bet that any opteron will overclock well

Well on the internet where I ordered most of my components you are correct, the 4200 and above was a fair bit of money however I managed to find a local store that was willing to sell me the 4200 for £155 as they had it on special... I thought it was a bargin.

The Opterons generally overclock better than the X2 CPU's due to they are made of better silicon. If it was me I would go for the Opteron but that depends on the price. $29 is too close to miss...

Generally AMD CPU's overclock to the same speed in their range of CPU's.
